Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 10, 2026

DomainToolBelt ("we", "our", "us") operates the domaintoolbelt.com website and the DomainToolBelt browser extension. We are committed to your privacy - we don't track your searches, we don't log your activity, and we don't sell any data.

The Short Version

No search logs: your domain lookups are never stored
No ads: no advertising cookies, no fingerprinting
No data sales: your information is never sold or shared
Local-first: extension data stays on your device

We Don't Track You

DomainToolBelt does not track your searches, browsing activity, or domain lookups. We do not use advertising pixels or fingerprinting. Your domain searches are not logged or stored on our servers.

Account Information

When you create an account, we store your email address and a hashed password. If you sign up via a third-party provider (e.g. Google), we receive your name and email from that provider. We do not store third-party passwords. No account is required to use the browser extension.

Payment Information

Payments are processed entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your credit card number. Stripe provides us with a tokenized reference and the last four digits for display in your dashboard.

Domain Data Sources

Domain registration data displayed on DomainToolBelt is collected from publicly available sources including WHOIS/RDAP registries, DNS records, and TLD zone files. This is public information and does not contain any user data.

Data Storage & Security

Account data is stored on our self-hosted infrastructure. All data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest. Database backups are encrypted and retained for 14 days. We do not sell, rent, or share your information with third parties.

Diagnostics & Error Reports

The browser extension sends us anonymous error reports by default so we can find and fix bugs. Each report contains:

  • The error message and code location, with all web addresses and domain names removed before it leaves your browser
  • A random installation id that is not linked to your account
  • The extension version and browser name

You can turn this off at any time in the extension settings under "Send anonymous error reports". If you submit a feedback or bug report form, we also receive the text you write and, only if you choose to provide it, your email address. Diagnostic data is stored on our own servers, never shared, and used only to fix problems.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Delete your account and all associated data
  • Export your data in a portable format

To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected].

Cookies and analytics

We use essential cookies only: they keep you signed in and secure your session. They are required for the site to work and are exempt from consent requirements. We use privacy-friendly analytics to understand aggregate site usage (pages visited, general region); this does not capture what you type into forms and is never used for advertising. We do not use advertising cookies, cross-site tracking, or fingerprinting, and we do not sell or share visitor data. The color-mode preference is stored in localStorage on your device and is never transmitted to our servers.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email to registered users and posted on this page with a revised date.
